The DVLA hold auctions of cherished number plates several times a year at different venues around the country so you should be able to attend one near you at some point in the year. It is well worth attending an auction to get a feel for how it all works, pay attention to who is bidding, those that bid very frequently are probably dealers, make a note of what they buy, they have been in the business for a while and know what sells and what makes a good investment, then look for those numbers on the internet to see what the marks ups are.
