09 private number plates launch
The 09 series of private plates launched 2nd December 2008. They were available on a first come first served basis by telephone and for the first time by ordering online over the internet. 749 registration numbers were sold on the launch day which is surprising as they cannot yet be used on a car. They can only be assigned to a vehicle registered after March 1st 2009 so many must have been bought for use in the future by people with cars on order. Many will have been bought for stock by dealers, number for girls names such as OO09 AMY and OO09 ANN will be re-advertised by them.
